First Generation

1. Abraham1 DUGAS was born in Toulouse, Haute-Garonne, France about 1616. Abraham died after 1698 in Port Royal, Nova Scotia.

He married Marguerite Marie Judith DOUCET in Port Royal, Nova Scotia, about 1647. Marguerite was born about 1625 and was the daughter of Germain DOUCET and Marie BOURGEOIS. Marguerite died December 19, 1707 in Port Royal, Acadia, Canada, at 82 years of age. 

Abraham Dugas was "Armorer of the King" and Lieutenant General in Acadia, where he arrived about 1641. In the 1671 census of Port Royal he is listed as a plowman with 16 arpents of land.

child 5 iv. Martin DUGAS was born in Port Royal, Acadia, Canada about 1656. He married Marguerite PETITPAS in Port Royal, Acadia, Canada, about 1676. 

child 6 v. Marguerite DUGAS was born in Port Royal, Acadia, Canada about 1657. She married Pierre ARCENAULT in Beaubassin, Acadia, Canada, about 1675. 

child 7 vi. Abraham DUGAS  was born in Port Royal, Acadia, Canada about 1663. Abraham died May 3, 1720 in Port Royal, Acadia, Canada, at 56 years of age. He married twice. He married Jeanne GUILLEBAUD in Port Royal, Acadia, Canada, about 1685. He married Madeline LANDRY in Port Royal, Acadia, Canada, about 1690.

3. Claude2 DUGAS (Abraham1) was born in Port Royal, Acadia, Canada about 1652. Claude died October 16, 1732 in Port Royal, Acadia, Canada, at 80 years of age.

He married Marie Francoise BOURGEOIS in Port Royal, Acadia, Canada, about 1673.  Marie was born about 1659. Marie was the daughter of Jacques BOURGEOIS and Jeanne TRAHAN. Marie died about 1695 in Port Royal, Acadia, Canada. 

Claude DUGAS and Marie Francoise BOURGEOIS had the following children:

He married Marguerite BOURG in Port Royal, Acadia, Canada, about 1700. Marguerite was born in Annapolis Royal, Annapolis, Nova Scotia about 1673 and died May 37, 1747 in Port Royal, Acadia, Canada, at 73 years of age. 

Claude DUGAS and Marguerite BOURG had the following children:

Fourth Generation

24. Charles4 DUGAS (Claude3, Claude2, Abraham1) was born in Port Royal, Acadia February 18, 1709.

He married Anne ROBICHAUD/ROBICHAUX in Port Royal, Acadia, June 28, 1732.  Anne was born January 18, 1707 and was buried January 2, 1776. Anne was the daughter of Prudent ROBICHAUD/ROBICHAUX and Henriette PETITPAS .

Charles DUGAS and Anne ROBICHAUD had the following children:

Fifth Generation

30. Jean5 DUGAS (Charles4, Claude3, Claude2, Abraham1) was born in Port Royal, Acadia about 1739. Jean died February 15, 1794 in Lafayette, Louisiana, at 54 years of age.

He married Marguerite DUPUIS in Acadia, Nova Scotia, about 1765. Marguerite is the daughter of Joseph DUPUIS and Isabelle LEBLANC. 

On April 4, 1765, before Francois GARIC, the French Royal Notary in the Province of Louisiana at New Orleans, appeared Antoine Bernard d'AUTERIVE, a retired Captain of Infantry in the armies of France, and Joseph BROUSSARD, called "Beausoleil," Alexandre BROUSSARD, Joseph GUILBEAU, Jean DUGAS, Oliver TIBAUDAU, Jean Baptiste BROUSSARD, Pierre ARCENEAU, and Victor BROUSSARD, chief heads of Acadian families who has recently arrived in New Orleans, and were residing there.

All were convened in common accord on the above date, in the presence of Monsieur Charles Philippe AUBRY, Knight of the Royal and Military Order of St. Louis, and Commandant in this colony. M. Nicolas Denis FOUCAULT, the French Naval Inspector, and Nicolas CHAUVIN de LAFRENIERE, first judge of the Superior Council of the Louisiana Province.

The Sieur d'AUTERIVE was to obligate himself by furnishing each of the above mentioned Acadian Chiefs and their respective families, for a period of six years, with five cows and their calves, one bull, and one-half interest in the produce grown and cultivated on his lands in the Attakapas Country. The said animals were to be duly delivered to the Acadians upon their arrival on his land.

This historical event took place in the "hotel" of the Sieur AUBRY, and was witnessed by the following" De La PLACE, Leonard MAZANGE, Couturie'

40. Jean Joseph6 DUGAS (Jean5, Charles4, Claude3, Claude2, Abraham1) was born in St. Martinville Parish, Louisiana July 2, 1788. Jean died 1832 in Liberty County, TX, at 43 years of age.

He married Marie Celina BREAUX in St. Martinville Parish, Louisiana, February 12, 1812.  Marie was born in St. James, Louisiana October 25, 1798. Marie was the daughter of Charles BREAUX and Marie Tarsilla GREVOIS. Marie died 1859 in Liberty County, TX, at 60 years of age. Marie married second to Pierre BLANCHET. From Stephen F. Austin "Register of Families, June 1831. "Pierre Blanchet, single 42 years of age, native of France, arrived in this Colony in June 1831, took the oath, certificate issued. July 18, 1831.

Jean was listed as the head of a family on the 1820 Census in St. Martinville Parish, Louisiana. He bought property in New Orleans Territory, December 20, 1803.

43. Joseph Leonard7 DUGAS (Jean Joseph6, Jean5, Charles4, Claude3, Claude2, Abraham1)  was born in St. Martinville Parish, Louisiana December 14, 1812. Joseph died July 20, 1884 at 71 years of age.

He married Sidney P. DUNCAN in Liberty Co., TX, November 1836. Sidney was born in South Carolina March 20, 1820 and  was the daughter of William DUNCAN and Jane ODEN. Sidney died December 13, 1888 in Beeville, Bee County, TX, at 68 years of age. Her body was interred Greenwood.  Joseph was listed as the head of a family on the 1840 Census in Liberty Co., TX.. Joseph was listed as the head of a family on the 1850 Census in Liberty Co., TX. Joseph was listed as the head of a family on the 1860 Census in Liberty Co., TX. Joseph was listed as the head of a family on the 1870 Census in Refugio Co., TX. Joseph was listed as the head of a family on the 1880 Census in Bee County, TX.. Joseph registered to pay taxes in Republic of Texas, 1836 and applied for bounty land in Chambers County, TX, November 8, 1837.   Joseph applied for a military pension in Refugio Co., TX, 1874. Joseph L. Dugat was reared in Liberty Co., TX. and was a soldier in the Texas Revolution. He served under General Thomas Green. In July 1836 he received land grants in Liberty Co., TX for his services. After the Civil War he settled in St.Mary's, Refugio Co., TX. and farmed there for several years.

Joseph Leonard DUGAS and Sidney P. DUNCAN had the following children:

He served as County Attorney, Bee County, Texas, from November 1880 to November 1884, and again from November 1886 to November 1890. He served as County Judge, Bee County, Texas, from November 1900 to November 1903.

child 55 iii. Albert G. DUGAT was born in Liberty County, TX about 1842. Albert died August 29, 1862 in Second Battle of Manassas, at 20 years of age.

child 56 iv. Julia C. DUGAT was born in Liberty County, TX about 1844. Julia died about 1867. She married Basil C. BRASHEAR.

child 57 v. Wilber Meredith DUGAT was born in Liberty County, TX March 6, 1847. Wilber died January 31, 1915 in Bee County, TX, at 67 years of age. His body was interred Corrigan Cemetery. He married Emma C. DUNCAN October 10, 1869.

child 59 vii. Jane Pamela DUGAT was born in Liberty County, TX August 12, 1853. Jane died September 22, 1872 at 19 years of age. Her body was interred St. Mary's, Refugio Co., TX. She married George HOWARD.

child + 60 viii. Jessie Duncan DUGAT was born April 29, 1859. She married William Sidney Howard, September 11,1875. She died January 3, 1898. See Howard Family.

child 62 x. Sidney Wesley DUGAT was born in Liberty County, TX about 1860. Sidney died February 13, 1938 in Mission Hidalgo County, TX, at 77 years of age.

44. Zumaler7 DUGAT (Jean Joseph6 DUGAS, Jean5, Charles4, Claude3, Claude2, Abraham1) was born in Lafayette, Louisiana December 12, 1815. Zumaler died about 1853 in St.Mary's, Refugio Co., TX.

He married Julia Ann WINFREY in Liberty Co., TX, about 1851.

45. Euphemia7 DUGAT (Jean Joseph6 DUGAS, Jean5, Charles4, Claude3, Claude2, Abraham1) was born in Lafayette, Louisiana about 1816. Euphemia died about 1881 in Texas.

She married Joseph TOUPS in Lafayette, Louisiana, about 1835.

child 74 viii. Terzelle TOUPS was born about 1857. Terzelle died about 1922. She married Eloi HARRINGTON. 

46. Margarette Jane7 DUGAT (Jean Joseph6 DUGAS, Jean5, Charles4, Claude3, Claude2, Abraham1) was born in Lafayette, Louisiana about 1817. Margarette died about 1864.

She married three times.  She married John A. WILLIAMS in Liberty Co., TX, November 27, 1832.  She married Thomas A. STANWOOD in Liberty County, TX, November 20, 1840. Thomas was listed as the head of a family on the 1850 Census in Galveston County, TX. . 

Margarette Jane DUGAT and John A. WILLIAMS had the following children:

47. Charles E.7 DUGAT (Jean Joseph6 DUGAS, Jean5, Charles4, Claude3, Claude2, Abraham1) was born in St. Martinville Parish, Louisiana May 13, 1820. Charles died May 2, 1880 in St Mary's Refugio Co., TX, at 59 years of age.

He married Mary Ann F. TEAR in Liberty Co., TX, about 1844.  

Charles was listed as the head of a family on the 1880 Census in Refugio Co., TX.  Charles was listed as the head of a family on the 1850 Census in Liberty Co., TX.  Charles was listed as the head of a family on the 1860 Census in Refugio Co., TX. Charles was listed as the head of a family on the 1870 Census in Refugio Co., TX. Charles E. Dugat was reared in Liberty Co., TX and was a soldier in the Texas Revolution and received land for his services. He and his family moved to Refugio Co., TX prior to 1853 where they had a farm on Quo Warranto Bayou. He was one of the most highly respected citizens and was on listed on jury list from 1853 until his death. He never ran for office, but was usually on the election boards for St.Mary's precinct, and served several years as road commissioner. He was a prominent Mason and a leader in the Methodist church.

48. Eulalie Tarsille7 DUGAT (Jean Joseph6 DUGAS, Jean5, Charles4, Claude3, Claude2, Abraham1) was born in Lafayette, La. March 18, 1822.

She married Beasley PRUITT July 2, 1837.  Beasley was born in Lafayette, Louisiana about 1816.  Beasley was listed as the head of a family on the 1850 Census in Liberty County, TX.  Beasley was listed as the head of a family on the 1860 Census in Liberty County, TX. Beasley was listed as the head of a family on the 1870 Census in Liberty County, TX. Petition #229, State of Texas. Petition be Beasley Pruitt for a certificate to one league and labor of land. Petitioner came forward was sworn and subscribed to the oath of law required. Daniel P. Colt, J. L. Dugat & E. Dorr proved that the applicant was a resident citizen of Texas at date of the declaration of independence and has continued so to the present time, that he was married 2, July 1837, has served in the Army and received an honorable discharge, emigrated to the country in 1825.

He married twice. He married Marcelette WINFREE about 1844.  Marcelette died about 1867/68 in Texas. He married Katherine O'BRIEN in Texas, about 1868/69.   Eularian was listed as the head of a family on the 1850 Census in Liberty County, TX.
