My Great-Grandfather William McGrenaghan immigrated to Lowell, MA. about 1880. His sister Jane had immigrated about 1875 and worked in the mills in Lowell, before joining the Sisters of Charity. William's brother Bernard and sisters Cecilia and Mary followed about 1884. After coming to America they all used the last name Green. They were born in a little village in County Donegal called Laraghirril. The village still exists and I have corresponded with the current owner of my great-Great-Grandparents farm. I just recently traveled to Ireland and had the opportunity to visit the land on which my Great-Grandfather was born. I am currently trying to find descendants of my Great-Great Grandparents brothers and sisters. In 1857, at the time of the Griffith's Valuation. there were 5 McGrenaghan households farming in Laraghirril, headed by Hugh, John, Michael and Owen (2). Michael is most certainly my Great-Great Grandfather, but who are John and the two Owens? Could they be his brothers, uncles, cousins?. I think the McGrenaghans were all related to each other since all the Irish families were located within a radius of about 40 miles in the 1850s. By 1901 there were still 5 McGrenaghan households in the same area. These households contained the following: 1. Michael (age 40) - Head, Sarah (40) - wife, Michael (18) - son, Mary (14) - daughter, Patrick (10) - son, Cassie (8) -daughter, William (6) - son, James (4) - son, Allan (2) - son.
2. Mary (35) - Head, Sarah (25) - sister, Denis
(24) - brother, Ellen (20) - sister.
3. Hugh (84) - Head, Kate (86) - sister, Michael
(40) - son-in-law, Anne (30) - daughter, Patrick (3) - grandson,
Annie(2) - granddaughter.
4. Joseph (35) - Head, James (36) - brother.
5. John (64) - Head, Anne (61) - wife, Hugh (28) - son,
Bernard (26) - son, Mary (26) - daughter, James (22) - son, Bernard
(76) - brother-in-law, Bernard (11) - servant.
This was written in the 1820's to
accompany the 6" Ordnance Survey maps, but with one exception,
were not published at the time. The Memoirs document the landscape and
situation, buildings and antiquities, land-holdings and population,
employment and livelihood of the parishes. The information below is on
the town of Clonmany which is about 15 minutes by car from the
McGrenaghan farm in Larraghirril. This family is my Brick Wall and any help would be appreciated. 1. Michael1 MCGRENAGHAN was born in County Donegal, Ireland about 1835. Michael died about 1876. He married Mary FARREN in Moville, County Donegal, Ireland, January 7, 1855. Their marriage record did not list the names of their parents. Since it was the custom to marry in the bride's Parish it is assumed that Mary Farren was from Moville. Michael MCGRENAGHAN and Mary FARREN had the following children:
3. Michael2 MCGRENAGHAN (Michael1) was born in Larahirrl, County Donegal, Ireland August 1857. Michael died December 10, 1932 in Laraghirril, County Donegal, Ireland, at 75 years of age. He married Sarah RUDDY in County Donegal, Ireland, about 1882. Michael MCGRENAGHAN and Sarah RUDDY had the following children:
6. William F.2 GREEN (Michael1 MCGRENAGHAN) was born in Larahirrl, County Donegal, Ireland March 1861. William died September 23, 1925 Beachmont, MA., at 64 years of age. His body was interred September 24, 1925 in Lowell, MA., St. Patrick's Cemetery. He married Margaret WALSH Photo in Lowell, MA, February 10, 1884. Margaret was born in Ireland May 1867. Margaret was the daughter of Michael Patrick WALSH and Margaret COUGHLIN. Margaret died May 23, 1901 in Lowell, MA., at 34 years of age. Her body was interred May 24, 1901 in Lowell, MA., St. Patrick's Cemetery. William F. GREEN and Margaret WALSH had the following children:
7. Mary2 MCGRENAGHAN (Michael1) was born in Laraghirril, County Donegal, Ireland February 1864. Mary died June 25, 1949 in Washington, DC, at 85 years of age. She married Martin J. MCANDREWS Photo in Lowell, MA, about 1902. Martin was born in Ballysokeery, Ballina, County Mayo, Ireland November 14, 1873. Martin died September 26, 1944 in Washington, DC, at 70 years of age. She was baptized in Laraghirril, County Donegal, Ireland, February 16, 1864. Mary MCGRENAGHAN and Martin J. MCANDREWS had the following children:
23. Aloysius W.3 GREEN (William F.2, Michael1 MCGRENAGHAN) was born in Lowell, MA. August 1896. Aloysius died December 18, 1973 in Lowell General Hospital, Lowell, MA., at 77 years of age. Photo He married Juliet K. LAVIGUEAR. Aloysius W. GREEN and Juliet K. LAVIGUEAR had the following children:
28. Martin George3 MCANDREWS (Mary2 MCGRENAGHAN, Michael1) was born in Worchester, Ma. October 28, 1903. Martin died February 1, 1962 in Washington, DC, at 58 years of age. He married Marion Margaret MCLEAREN. Marion was born in Washington, DC January 13, 1908. Marion died August 1978 in Washington, DC, at 70 years of age. Martin George MCANDREWS and Marion Margaret MCLEAREN had the following children:
32. Nancy C.4 GREEN (Aloysius W.3, William F.2, Michael1 MCGRENAGHAN) was born in Lowell, MA. She married Gerald Brady COUGHLIN. Nancy C. GREEN and Gerald Brady COUGHLIN had the following children:
33. Gerald Gerard4 GREEN (Aloysius W.3, William F.2, Michael1 MCGRENAGHAN) was born in Lowell, MA October 5, 1925. Gerald died December 22, 1993 in Newport, Maine, at 68 years of age. He married Theresa Y. COTE. Theresa was born 1925. Theresa died 1968 at 43 years of age. Gerald Gerard GREEN and Theresa Y. COTE had the following children:

His body was interred November 1993 in Lowell, MA. St. Patrick’s. He married Barbara June CONNORS in Woburn, MA., June 20, 1953. Barbara was born in Woburn, MA. June 15, 1931. Barbara is the daughter of Joseph Henry CONNORS and Emily Emma YOUNG. John Brendan GREEN and Barbara June CONNORS had the following children:
