First Generation1. Thomas1 HOWARD was born in South Carolina, according to the 1850 Chickasaw County, Mississippi census, about 1780. The first record that I can find on Thomas was in the Warren County, Georgia Tax Digest of 1801 and 1805. Thomas drew land in the 1805 Georgia Land Lottery while living in Warren County, Georgia. Thomas also drew land in the 1807 Georgia Land Lottery in Baldwin County, Georgia. He is also found serving on a jury in Warren County, Georgia, September 1812. He served on a jury in Warren County, Georgia, March 1814. Thomas is also found paying taxes in Warren County, Georgia, 1817 and 1818. Thomas was listed as the head of the family on the 1820 Census in Warren County, Georgia, on Reedy Creek, and the following individuals that surrounded Thomas were Sterling Proctor, Issac Hart, Martha Huff, Thomas Hogab, John Champion, John Kelly, Matthew Bailey, and Samuel Rutherford. He served on a jury in Warren County, Georgia, 1822. Thomas was listed as the head of the family on the 1830 Census in Baker County, Georgia, and also on the 1840 Census in Baker County, Georgia. Living near Thomas was David White who is also found near Thomas in the 1850 Chickasaw County, Mississippi census. Thomas registered to pay taxes in Chickasaw County, Mississippi, 1844. Thomas was listed as the head of a family on the 1850 Census in Chickasaw County, Mississippi. So far I have not found any record of Thomas' wife, therefore we do not know her name. There is a marriage record in Rowan County, North Carolina for a Thomas Howard and Harriett Gaither, 29 October 1799. This Harriett could possibly be the woman we are looking for and further investigation will need to be done to verify this. Thomas Howard's son Thomas Jefferson Howard named his first daughter Harriett, which is a good clue. Thomas HOWARD had the following children:

4. Thomas Jefferson2 HOWARD (Thomas1) was born in Warren County, Georgia October 17, 1814. The information on Thomas' birth comes from his Indian War Pension Records. Thomas died January 5, 1898 in Mineral City, Bee County, Texas at 83 years of age. His body was interred January 8, 1898 in Mineral City, Bee County, Texas, Mineral City Cemetery. He married Sarah Ann JONES in Carrollton, Carroll County, Georgia, April 22, 1837. Sarah was born in Georgia about 1820. Sarah died November 19, 1904 in Rockport, Aransas County, Texas, at 84 years of age. Thomas served in the Indian War and was inducted in Fayetteville County, Georgia, June 16, 1836. He was released from active duty in West Point, Alabama, August 31, 1836. Thomas registered to pay taxes in Chickasaw County, Mississippi, 1844. Harriett died January 9, 1930 in Fort Worth, Tarrant County, Texas, at 91 years of age. She married Lyman BRIGHTMAN in Goliad County, Texas, July 19, 1855. Lyman was born in Indiana about 1828 and died January 21, 1918 in Comanche County, Texas, at 89 years of age. Lyman served in the military in Texas, May 1862. He was released from active duty May 1865. Harriett was listed as the head of a family on the 1870 Census in Refugio County, Texas.
